Uncommon Sense

UNCOMMON SENSE… A Strategic Vision for Revitalizing Our Commitment to the American Mission By Errol Strider “Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our Positively by uniting our affections, the latter Negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first a patron, the last a punisher.”   Common Sense by Thomas Paine             "American needs to recover its mythic dimension.”                   The American Soul by Jacob Needleman “What we lack is an evolved sense of our collective purpose for our talent and intelligence.    .......it  feels as though there is no unified social force field for the effort, no number to call, no place to sign up.” Healing of America by Marianne Willia...

Accelerating conscious evolution

Image
Accelerating conscious evolution Part 1 The quickest way to accelerate conscious evolution, how it works, why it’s necessary. Please, take your seats. It seems there are two frames of references that need to be united. The first one is the activities of life and all the repercussions therefrom, the degree to which they impact the quality of life and especially, how they harmfully influence phenomena with which they are in association. Let’s call this dimension or realm, “Shenanigans”. Then there is the other perspective, largely unrecognized by the first one and yet with the potential to provide the kinds of adjustments and support that the first perspective, the "Shenanigans," requires in order to “right” itself. This perspective is the one from the point of view of the united whole--as in, "Just for the whole of it,"-- which, while recognizing its inherent parts, sees no separation within them.   We'll call this perspective "The Union...

TRUTH IS ILLUSIVE, BUT WELL WORTH FINDING

Image
I wrote the following poem many years ago (1971) about the search and discovery of truth.  I hope the metaphors and innuendos make your discovery rich with surprises and insights. When we performed the piece Rochelle played the "timid" answer--in picture. Answers are Timid Answers are timid, my friend. They're born when the snow starts to melt And blossom when sweat beads fall. They can't be churned out like butter, But must age like cheese. In the desert they lie under rocks. On the mountains they're high on a crest. They're mixed in with confusion one thousand times their mass. One must pan them like god, sift them like flour, Or just listen. Answers are timid, my friend. They're so close you can touch them from here, But you've got to know where to reach Before that answer will ever appear. They hide themselves in corners, On shelves that are covered with dust, And they're in fro...

WHAT'S THE POINT?

Image
"So, what's the point?" One answer I've heard to that question is, "You have a bunch of problems and then you're dead." But here's my  short answer....... Evolve EVOLVE--Origin:  early 17th century : from Latin  evolutio(n-) ‘unrolling’, from the verb  evolvere  (see  evolve ). a notion of “opening out” and “unfolding,” giving rise to a general sense of ‘development.’ I'd like to focus on the process of "unfolding" or opening out".  The point being that each of us has within us as much of the totality of existence we want to allow, which we can do, paradoxically, by letting it out, by releasing it-- But, one might ask, "what is equivalent to physical spiraling in the arena of consciousness, for that is likely where "the Point" will be  found? Infinite potential and self-expression is all wrapped up in this almost infinitesimally small bit of consciousness (each of us), but however tiny each individual...

God bless....what can that possibly mean?

Image
When we say or hear someone say, "God Bless You," what do we think we're doing? What will happen?  Or who is this God?  And what is blessing? I guess that getting a "Blessing"is receiving some goodies from God.  This could mean that God who has been busy either not giving blessings or has not been giving blessings to me and others until it has been asked for is is now persuaded to impart blessings--  Wealth, love, opportunity, health, better conditions, relief from pain, free tickets. But for a deeper understanding of blessing,  let's go to a famous source, the one who started off a bunch of sentences with the line, "Blessed are the...."--the Beatitudes from Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount." For example, "Blessed are the simple, (used to be called "meek") for they shall inherit the earth." Now, to me, that sounds like a mixed blessing, because if I inherit the earth, well....then.....I'm responsible for it....

Don't Take 'Yes' for an answer.

Image
Too short.  Yeah, you want an answer that's got some ongoing-ness to it.  "Yes" is great, but it's over too soon. Way shorter than an orgasm, even, and that's always a good answer. No, I wouldn't take "Yes" for answer. I'd want answer to be more like, "Whatever you want."  Wouldn't that be a cool answer. Or, "You're never wrong."  Wow, that's a dynamite answer.  Just count the syllables--that alone qualifies it as an answer for the taking or, "You get to decide."--Now, that's a hellava answer, ain't it? But if you have a short attention span and can get by on answer snacks, then "Yes" is okay.  It'll do in a pinch. But one more thing--the reason not to take "yes" as an answer is because no answer, no matter how good it is, can be taken.   After all the very best answers aren't taken.......they're shared-- that's what makes them .........expert answ...
